Americans think Bill Clinton would be a great First Man if his wife were elected president.

"An asset," a Gallup Panel survey said today. By a better than a two-to-one margin, or 70 to 28 percent, "Americans believe he would be more helpful than harmful to his wife's presidency," Gallup said.

He'd be great giving parties, hosting social events, championing a social issue or cause, representing the White House at foreign weddings and funerals, Americans indicated in the survey.

They also are amendable to Bill Clinton raising money and supporting candidates at election time, just as Laura Bush has done, according to the survey.

There were some interesting caveats.

The survey said 63 percent believe he should not hold an official government position as policy adviser, but 61 percent think he should advise her unofficially.

The last two questions and answers should be enough to evoke smiles. Of course he would advise her, just as he's no doubt advising her now on political strategy. Of course he would be influential. He's a former president and perhaps the biggest policy wonk ever to hold the office.

The survey found that 40 percent believe that Clinton would have more influence than presidential spouses. But 35 percent said he would have the same influence and 25 percent he would have less influence.

The Gallup News Service, which released the survey, said most Americans believe first ladies have always had some level of influence over presidential decisions. One in five believe previous first ladies have had a "great deal" of influence and another 52 percent say presidential spouses had a "fair amount" of influence.

In other words, women have paved the way for the first First Man, if indeed that is Bill Clinton.

And you may ask, what about pillow talk? The poll dealt with that, too. Gallup said that if there were concerns that he would usurp Hillary Clinton's presidential powers via pillow talk or if his role became a distraction, "one extreme solution would be for Bill Clinton not to live in the White House."

But, the survey said, nearly 9 in 10 Americans would not want Bill Clinton to move out.

No surprise here. The number of those who consider him an asset to Hillary versus a liability closely resembles his approval rating at the end of his presidency and to this day. Sorry, wingers, read 'em and weep. I promise people will not be urning for the "good ol' days" of George W Bush's presidency any time soon.

Americans and the world still love "Bubba".

The GOP still trys to blame all of their failures on him ....what a joke....a huge majority of Americans would love to hit the "wayback machine" and go back to the peace and PROSPERITY that we had during his administration.
Thanks to the incompetent W. administration no one other than Paulo,John D. and Bruce gives a damn about the "Monica" got.

Thanks John E.

Not surprised Clintoon lovers are ignorant. Bryan, that would be "yearning" not urning!

John E., there has been just as much PROSPERITY during Bush administration as there was during the Clintoon administration, and perhaps even moreso under Bush.

Peace? How many times did Clintoon bomb Iraq? How many days in a row did Clintoon bomb Bosnia? How many times did Clintoon turn a blind eye to terrorism?

Hey Lefties: You might want to watch "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" You folks might, and I mean might, learn something!!

I've heard the Clinton years referred to as a "vacation from history."

no name,
President Bush knows a lot about vacations.

I'm sure there are numbers that prove there is as much prosperity under W than under Clinton, but it's all for the top 1%. Clinton's policies made everyone better off, which is what the Republicans hate more than anything. They still hate FDR for getting us out of the depression crying out loud!

Hey John D.- What month is Columbus Day in?? What does REM stand for?? Is it Clinton or Clintoon?? Oh, I see your being silly. How's your (bad) back?? Word around the campfire is that IF Hillary wins the presidency in 08, Bill is going to be 'appointed' senator of New York. Did you hear that on Drudge??
By the way, your George Bush is one of the worst Presidents in history. He has done absolutely nothing positive or constructive for this country. He doesn't even know what's going on in Iraq. Keep listening to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly. That is about your intelligence level.

"John E., there has been just as much PROSPERITY during Bush administration ...."
JohnD,

Well, not yesterday.

********

You attack Clinton for turning a blind eye;

What about the 241 dead Marines in Lebanon, 1982 ?

What about the Iraqi attack on the USS Stark, 1987?

Looks like Reagan looked the other way, then cut and ran.
And the Stark attack was a perfect excuse to take out Saddam!

Oh yeah, Saddam was Reagan's boy at the time.

And we've all heard the BushCorp years referred to as a 'vacation from reality'.

Doug R. and John E,

Hills is my least favorite Democratic candidate for '08 , but it would be worth it for her to get elected just to see the reaction
from the right wing.

Imagine Hillary in the White House
It's easy if you try

And Slick Willy in the Senate
Lookin' at the ladies, sly

Imagine all the Clintons
Ruling John D and Paulo

To answer John D's question, Clinton bombed Iraq three different times. The most famous one was whenever he was about to impeached. You remember, don't you? Operation: P1erversion Diversion.

John E., how's Iraq today? Or Mom's basement?

Oh Doogie, I mean Dougie, if you want to examine stock market crashes look at the one that took place in 2000, when Clintoon was president. NADAQ going from 5,000 to 2,500; Dow falling 1,000 points or so.

And I love listening to Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly (I know you lefties really hate O'Reilly cause he particularly goes after the Left's favorite people: child molestors!), and I love Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter too!!

Every single one of the folks has much more intelligence than any piece of trash the Left can throw at them. Stuart Smalley, anyone? Keith Olbermann?

John D,

"Not surprised Clintoon lovers are ignorant. Bryan, that would be "yearning" not urning!"

Congratulations! Over 8 months of sticking it to you relentlessly as you flounder in your far-right malaise, you finally got me on something! I misspelled a homophone! Well, lord knows then I must not know what I'm talking about on anything else then!

So let's see, I'll count the typos:

My post: urning mistaken for yearning

John D's post:

Clintoon. He's the 42 president, and whether you dislike him or not, misspelling his name does not help impress anyone with your intellect. I guess its supposed to be a slur as you use the same misspelling 3 times (or else you are just that smart), but I don't see what you are alluding to. Perhaps its too clever by half.

moreso. I believe its "more so," two words.

Now, to the meat. "there has been just as much PROSPERITY during Bush administration as there was during the Clintoon administration"

Please define "prosperity." In my world that means that those at all income points are doing well. It means that poverty is down and employment is up. It implies a relatively balanced financial state, as any American president can choose to borrow money indefinitely and shower the largess on those whom he favors with no eye whatsoever to what happens when the party ends. The trick is leveraging those borrowed dollars into widespread prosperity, which is not measured by the peak of the Dow Jones average or the nation's gross income.

Employment is down, poverty is up, wages are down, median income is down and debt is up dramatically under Bush. Sorry, that does not spell "prosperity" in anything but the narrowest sense of the word.

John D,

Instead of picking on Bryan's misspelling, answer the charges
against RR.

"You attack Clinton for turning a blind eye;

What about the 241 dead Marines in Lebanon, 1982 ?

What about the Iraqi attack on the USS Stark, 1987 ?

Looks like Reagan looked the other way, then cut and ran.

Jeff,

re: your 'wag the dog' claim on Clinton. According to Thomas Ricks (Fiasco), and he sites credible sources, captured workers and scientist that participated in Iraq's Nuclear program in the 80's say that the devastating damage to Iraq's nuclear facilities from Clinton's attacks was, by far, the biggest factor behind Iraq abandoning it's nuclear program. Despite some neocon claims to the contrary, Iraq's nuclear program and facilities were a shambles when we invaded in 2003. You can largely thank Clinton's cruise-missile party for that. Furthermore, Clinton didn't use 'cooked' intelligence to justify his actions, unlike your liar-in-chief, Bush. Nor did it cost thousands of lives.

Johnny D,

Was it O' Reilly that went after the Grand Old Pedophiles who brought down the republican party in the mid-term elections?

And if O'Reilly is so brilliant, why won't he engage in an honest debate? I listened to his show once, someone slipped through his "screening process", in other words, not a cheerleader. As soon as this guy posed a legitimate question, O' Reilly cut him off, accused him of being a "plant", refused to answer his question and hung up.

Of course, that's typical of all the RR pundits. There's never any debate with them, it's just one big echo chamber. Sort of like Bush's phony "town hall" meetings. All screened, all staged.

Jeff/Bill,

In my response to your crack about 'Bubba', I meant Iraq's nuclear program in the 90's, not 80's. It hasn't posted yet, not sure why. Also, I think you should consider giving up your hate-fest with Clinton, It can't be healthy.

Great at what exactly? Keeping the interns happy? after the clintons and shrub, I think it's time for a little class in the white house.

When will you get it right? The male corralary of "First Lady" is "First Lord," not "First Man."

By the way, the First Lady is not always the wife of the President. Presently un-Married and one Confirmed bachelor have served in the Oval Office. Each of these appointed a close female relative to administer the very important hospitality protocol functions of the White House operation.

This being said, couldn't a female President appoint her daughter to serve as the First Lady? Would anyone excepect Mr. Clinton to be actively involved in planning State Dinners et al?

Since the Gallup organization is corrupt and biased, as are most polling services, this has no meaning.

So what about Ronald Reagan's cowardly inaction in the
events I discussed above:

1. 241 dead Marines in Leb.
2. Attack on USS Stark by Saddam

Let me guess, since no one will answer.

There were overriding concerns and interests that negated
a robust military response at the time, and for reasons we little
people can't know it was decided that effective military action
was against the national interest.

vwcat,

Passat, Touareg, or GTI?

Re: class in the White House; Class is a nice bonus, right now I'd settle for competence and honesty.

Bryam, I am even less impressed by your "intelligence" than before. Clintoon, cartoon, get it?

And speaking of Reagan retaliation to terrorism, seems to be Reagan sent a strong statement to Khadafy. Remember when he bombed Libya, almost killing Khadafy in the process? At that time, Libya and Khadafy were the worst terrorists and organizers of terrorists. Reagan also fought against the Sandanistas and other Communist terrorists in Central America. And, of course, be single-handedly brought down the Soviet empire (with Thatcher's help I must say).

During Bush's seven years, the average unemployment rate is lower than under Clinton. Wages are up. Incomes are up. More home ownership. The lowest wage earners no longer pay a federal income tax.

Sorry to bring facts to the table Loony Lefters. I know it hurts.

First you say;
"Peace? How many times did Clintoon bomb Iraq? How many days in a row did Clintoon bomb Bosnia? How many times did Clintoon turn a blind eye to terrorism?"

Then you say;
"And speaking of Reagan retaliation to terrorism, seems to be Reagan sent a strong statement to Khadafy. Remember when he bombed Libya, almost killing Khadafy in the process? "

John D,

This sounds like Reagan used the same pin prick tactics as Clinton.

I might add, we won in Kosovo. No American combat deaths. One accidental death.

But that doesn't explain Ronald 'Rayguns' cowardice in the face
of Saddam's attack on the Stark, and the terrorist attack on the
stupidly deployed Marines in Lebanon.

Even Cappy Wienburger was against the suicide posture that the
old fool put the boys in.

Swamp Writers and Editors,

I can't believe that the long, fully-cited post that I wrote BEFORE the above 12:23 post did not make it through your censors or the black hole that now appears to be The Swamp. It couldn't possibly have been left out for content, so what gives?

If you guys are trying to shut this party down, just shut it down. If not, you can't expect people to put in the time to create meaningful dialogue and in-depth thought when it is essentially a crap shoot that the writing will make it "to print." If what you're trying to do is limit the discussion to the two sentence screamers who are long-time fixtures here (you know exactly who you are), job well done.

If not, your monitoring system appears to be inefficient and if your desire is to keep the Swamp as an active forum for the people to speak their minds, this problem should be corrected as swiftly as possible.

Americans and the world still love "Bubba".

I don't if everybody in the world does... but i know Mark Rich likes him ..BIG TIME
