The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Here’s something both Democrats and Republicans might agree upon:

Barack Obama could give John McCain a tougher contest in November.

That’s what the Gallup poll has found.

Gallup’s daily tracking pver the weekend portrayed Obama, senator from Illinois, with a 10-point advantage over Clinton, senator from New York, among Democrats. Today's results of the latest daily track show Obama up eight points. The Pew Research Center has found a similar margin.

But with numbers that are certain to add fuel to Obama’s pitch to those superdelegates on whom Clinton counts to turn the nomination her way, Gallup has found this as well:

In a March 24-27 survey of 1,005 people:

 Democrats were asked whether Clinton or Obama has the better chance of defeating McCain in November: 59 percent said Obama does, and 30 percent said Clinton does.

 Republicans were asked whether McCain has a better chance of defeating Clinton or Obama. Sixty-four percent said McCain has a better chance of beating Clinton, 22 percent said Obama.

"Gallup polling has recently shown some positive momentum for Obama in the Democratic nomination battle -- he has moved into the lead over Clinton in the preferences of Democratic voters nationwide,’’ Gallup’s Jeffrey Jones reports. “Both candidates are competitive with McCain in Gallup's latest polling on registered voters' general election preferences, though Obama has tended to do marginally better than Clinton in the more recent updates.''

Most rank-and-file Democrats also seem to agree that the divisive party primary is doing harm to the Democrats, according to the Gallup survey’s results: 56 percent of Democrats surveyed said it is doing "more harm than good," while 35 percent said is doing "more good than harm."

“Clearly at this point, the party rank-and-file thinks Obama would present a stronger challenge to McCain in the fall than Clinton would,’’ Jones reports. “Those attitudes could certainly change over the remainder of the campaign, but it is notable that Obama maintains a wide lead in these perceptions shortly after the Jeremiah Wright controversy knocked his campaign off stride.’’

The survey of 1,005 adults carries a possible margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

I already knew it ever since Rush Limbaugh started pushing Hillary Clinton. And ever since then, the Clintons and the Republicans have been in alliance. Just watch those fox stations and you will see. The whole conservative media is supporting her. Because it serves the media to keep the race going for ratings, and it serves the Republicans to get Hillary. I understand their alliance, but they have gone RACIAL and have decided to SCARE white people into voting against Obama. These conservatives are counting of racist americans and that is about as low as you get. Clintons have hurt Barack beyond repair with lies and deception. And now that they have gotten Americans all scared they want to continue the race.

Rush Limbaugh's call for Republicans to cross over and vote for hillary, --with the intention of getting McCain into the White House, was not an empty call. I saw at least two media reports that more than 700,000 Republican voters in Ohio did exactly that. Of course, the Clinton campaign took it as a sign of support, when in fact it was because the Republicans cannot wait to expose several Clinton skeletons in the closet. But any Republican who switched over should be limited in the November elections to vote only on a Democratic ticket.

Oscar Wilde once said, "A friend stabs you in the chest..." His point is well taken. Obama and wife Michelle clearly love America and its ideals, but do not mince on words when it comes to bringing up baby. So what you see is what you get, no apologies, just straightforward talk. Not the Clintons. They say what you want to hear, then condescendingly belittle you behind your back, patting their own backs for having outsmarted everyone. I would love for someone to call, "checkmate."

If Hillary would like to weaken the Democratic ticket by staying in the contest with the sole purpose of leveraging herself into the VP slot... well that's her right. You go girl ;)

Tony,

Grrrreat way to spread democracy buddy.

With Sen Casey's endorsement and support on the campaign trail Sen Obama is virtually guaranteed to not lose by more than 10% in the PA primary on 04/22, that effectively is a LOSS for Sen Clinton As she must win 63% of ALL remaining delegates to even have a shot at claiming a delegate victory.

Not to mention the fact that North Carolina, Oregon, Montana, and Idaho will all be double digit blow outs for Sen Obama. This all indicates that Sen Clinton is dead in the water as even Republican math and Katherine Harris couldnt save her now. However i think think that she should continue her campaign until the final primary which i think is 06/02. As long as she keeps it clean and stops with the "kitchen sink strategy" (which she has toned it down over the last 4-5 days) i see no reason why she cannot continue her campaign, after all she IS on the ballot.

Sen Obama vs Sen McCain in a straight up popular vote is no contest McCain wouldnt stand a chance, but we have that beautiful Electoral College system. I think that Florida is a foregone conclusion in McCain's favor in the general election. But i have been studying the delegate maps from the 2000 and 2004 general election and there are places like OH, PA, VA, NH, MO, and CO where there are real battlegrounds that would tip the election into a landslide and based on what we have seen in the primaries i think that Sen Obama has a very realistic chance of winning the Electoral College as well.

Yeah, the Republic Party dimwits don't have much to worry about with Clinton that's for sure.

Cash-strapped Clinton fails to pay bills"
By: Kenneth P. Vogel- Politico
March 30, 2008 11:38 AM EST

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s cash-strapped presidential campaign has been putting off paying hundreds of bills for months — freeing up cash for critical media buys but also earning the campaign a reputation as something of a deadbeat in some small-business circles.

A pair of Ohio companies owed more than $25,000 by Clinton for staging events for her campaign are warning others in the tight-knit event production community — and anyone else who will listen — to get their cash upfront when doing business with her. Her campaign, say representatives of the two companies, has stopped returning phone calls and e-mails seeking payment of outstanding invoices. One even got no response from a certified letter.

"Is Hillary broke"?
March 29, 2008
BY MICHAEL SNEED Sun-Times Columnist

Scoop du jour? Sneed hears major money problems in the Clinton camp may soon become a coroner knocking on her campaign door.

To wit: Word is the cash feeding into Hillary Clinton's campaign coffers has not only slowed down in a big way, undisclosed campaign debts that have yet to be made public could signal the end and have insiders biting their nails.

"Hillary needs to raise money to stay alive," a top Dem source said.

HE WILL BREAK YOU HEART. THAT'S WHAT PAPER TIGERS DO.

With Senators Leahy and Dodd requesting and suggesting that Hillary withdraw, you are beginning to hear a chorus of demands that the Democratic primary end now.

Join the chorus. Join the movement. Ask Senator Clinton to drop out of the race for the good of the Democratic Party and the welfare of the American people.

Visit: http://www.dropouthillary.org

Hillary has proven, above all, that she is a BIG LIAR and UNTRUSTWORTHY. She shows NO remorse when confronted with her lies; she merely says, "I misspoke". Recently, on talk radio regarding her "landing amid sniper fire, and running with their heads down to their vehicles" claims, she stated, "I misspoke the other day, it is the FIRST TIME I have misspoken IN TWELVE YEARS OR SO" Absolutely incredible! She keeps "piling on" lies upon lies. Does she REALLY think Americans are going to buy this outragious BS? Hillary and Bill are certainly showing just how they think of and feel about United States citizens: "YOU ARE SO STUPID, YOU WILL BELIEVE ANYTHING WE SAY AS THE TRUTH". "AND IF YOU DON'T, WELL YOU ARE STILL STUPID FOR PICKING ON HILLARY BECAUSE SHE IS A 'GIRL'" Given their attitude, I do not understand why people are still voting for Hillary; she has continually insulted voters who have not voted for her; she has demeaned and insulted smaller states and caucus states. Does this sound like someone who would unite our country? I think NOT.

Good to see Senator Obama continues to lead in all aspects of this election process. He WILL unite the country and return us to "a government for the people, by the people, and of the people". He will be an awesome President and Commander and Chief!!

There is something called the Bradley factor. It is named after former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley who lost the California gubenatorial race to George Deukmejian. It was observed again in Virginia when Doug Wilder barely beat Marshal Coleman for that state's governor's mansion. What is means is polls in which a black candidate is running against a white can be wrong. Bradley was expected to win and Wilder was 10 points ahead of Coleman in the polls. Bradley lost and Wilder won by a .1 of percent.

I think McCain should drop out too...why even have an election when you have a candidate as strong as Obama......Oh please....and the Clintons should drop out..??? They play high stakes poker over there, just ask Vince Foster....

Sorry Swamp but I disagree.I dont know which Dems you are polling but I believe Mccain will win the presidency, if by some miracle Mr Obama wins the nomination.Go Hillary!!

Hillary should not quit! I think she has a much better chance of winning against McCain Don't quit Hillary Clinton1! I think the next primary will be a big win for Hillary!

brillaint

A POLL?? A POLL tellls you anything?
Gimme a break.
QUIT MAKING **** UP AND FOCUS ON THE PLATFORMS OF BOTH CANDIDATES.
You shoulda done this when Edwards was still in the race.
Oh, wait, he's suspended not ended.
I think we'll see him after Obama gets his nose wiped in PA--or after a prosecution for trying to steal Texas--where's the coverage on that crap?

i AGREE WITH THE RAPPER,FIFTY CENT, WHO THINKS THAT AMERICA IS NOT READY FOR A BLACK PRESIDENT.(AND HE SHOULD KNOW - HE'S BLACK TOO) LOL

If Obama is the nominee, McCain is almost certainly our next president. The polls are distorted by two factors: (1) responses rooted in the subconscious desire not to appear racist and (2) the long-standing hatred of Clinton felt by many rank-and-file Republicans. In the general election, Jeremiah Wright (and James Meeks, Louis Farrakhan, and others) will become the albatross that sinks the Democrat's chances to regain the White House.

Whatever's left standing after the demo's get through with one another will be just fine, thank you!

When McCain wins in November Obama can head back to sheepherding in Kenya with his kin.

He is not the savior of the world he claims to be!

Sorry Swamp but I disagree.I dont know which Dems you are polling but I believe Mccain will win the presidency, if by some miracle Mr Obama wins the nomination.Go Hillary!!

By some miracle? Obama's the frontrunner for the nomination. What democratic race are you watching?

Hillary is in it to win it! And millions of people want her to stay in the race til the end.

This is something that’s just being realized now? C’mon get with it, it’s been obvious from the start. Back months ago when KKK Rove was on "Meet the Press" you could see he was pushing for Clinton to be the nominee, so he must have something up his sleeve to hit her with, and thinks it’s the only way to beat the democratic party in the fall.

Well, I'm sure obama always tell the truth..
Regarding Pastor Wright and Obama where he denied being present when pastor made his headline-making sermons. I read where Jim Davis a reporter for NewsMaxx magazine says "he saw the would-be President at one of them last July 22, when the pastor blamed the "white arrogance" of America for the world's suffering and more bs.

Brian: the crossovers were not exercising democracy.

sd, that story has since been discredited. Obama was campaigning in Miami, I believe, at the time. Bill Kristol picked up on it in the NYT, and he had to issue a correction. I'd stop running with that one, if I were you. Obama's told some other fibs, but that's not one of them.

I think this conclusion is fairly obvious to thinking people.

Clinton is divisive because there are large groups both on the right and the left who just dislike her brittle personality.

She also comes with a husband who few want back in the headlines. The guy had his moment, and he did show us a pretty sleazy character.

McCain is actually not a strong opponent. He is not especially smart. He has made many goofy mistakes through his career, including ones around illegal activity. He also has a sleazy side much like Bill Clinton. And his ugly temper certainly will reveal itself during the campaign.

OBAMA: DIRTY POLITICIAN FROM THE START: Chicago Sun-Times—A close examination of Obama’s first campaign clouds the image he has cultivated throughout his political career: Obama, who runs on a message of giving a voice to the voiceless, first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it. Alice Palmer, friend and mentor to Obama, served the district in the Illinois Senate for much of the 1990s. Decades earlier, she was a community organizer in the area when Obama was growing up in Hawaii. She risked her safe seat to run for Congress and touted Obama as a suitable successor. But when Palmer lost the congressional race, her supporters asked Obama to fold his campaign so she could easily retain her state Senate seat. Obama not only refused to step aside for the woman who was his friend and had recommended him for the seat, he filed challenges that nullified Palmer’s hastily gathered nominating petitions, forcing her to withdraw. Had Palmer survived the petition challenge, Obama would have faced the daunting task of taking on an incumbent senator. “He wondered if we should knock everybody off the ballot. How would that look?” said Ronald Davis, the paid Obama campaign consultant whom Obama referred to as his “guru of petitions.” Davis filed objections to all four of Obama’s Democratic rivals at the candidate’s behest. All other candidates were disposed of by Obama’s challenges. He then went on to win the election.

Barack's granny expresses fear of walking to the bus stop because she was accosted the day before. Gramps dismisses her as a racist. Lesson learned, not forgotten, and even used as an example in his speach. Cry racism and let white guilt pave your way.

God Damn America versus God Bless America?

Sorry, Barack cannot win in the general.

The Republicans are united with HRC's supporters against the HARD LEFT and ANTI-AMERICANISM.

Strange bedfellows but most of us just want to hire a President that actually loves his country.

What's in this Gallup Poll that Mark Silva doesn't tell you:

It links to their latest poll match-up that has McCain beating both Obama and Clinton.

Sorry, GOLDEN OLDIE and BRIGETTE -- You seem to think that the blogger is making up the numbers or conducting the polls -- but if you read more carefully, you'll see he's reporting the latest Gallup Poll numbers -- and these numbers show that Obama is beating Hillary.

Democrats can't be this ignorant. As an African American, I absolutely refuse to get on the "Obama train". As a Republican, I look at your party and I'm constantly shocked. Hillary has been the heart and soul of that party since Slick Willie left office and you guys turned on her like she's never done a thing for you in her entire life (almost like she was/is Barack Obama). It's crazy that you guys get sucked into this Obama "hype" that's "sweeping" the nation. It makes no sense to me. Thie guy has NO list of accomplishments other than writing a couple of books and being a good professor. There are lots of good authors and great professors out there but that doesn't mean they're qualified to be the leader of the free world. Hillary has been betrayed by you all for a "nobody". I'm looking at this "craze" and I don't want to get with it, I want to find a way to combat it. Jim Jomes had alot of charisma as did David Koresh but for all of their charms, their followers got a raw deal (to put it mildly). I've listened to several of Obama's speeches where he's saying he's going to tear down whatever fence we put on the border and when he's president, he's going to disarm America. How can any of this be good for us? I've listened to him act like he didn't know his Pastor is racist and then go on to say that he never heard him say anything like that then to finally admit that he heard him say stuff like that on a few ocassions. It was amazing to watch Rev. J. Wright go from "mentor"/"spiritual advisor" to being reduced to "that crazy uncle". Obama isn't even a good liar but because he's well spoken (and BLACK), he's given a pass. If McCain or Clinton went to a church like his, they'd be asked to step down. No one wants to admit this because they'd be labled "racist". I'm black, so I guess I can get away with saying it. I guess I can get away with asking hard questions like : "How in the world did this guy make it this far?" and "Are Democrats that desperate?"

Obama is our Savior. Barak and Reverend Wright are Right, God D*** america. Now is the time to rally around Barak and Michelle and make them proud! No more so called elections where typical white people vote! And news flash america, Barak is right, your typical white american is a racist! Obama will apologize to our Muslim brothers for arrogant american policies of hate and slavery. Only Obama can forgive an evil nation founded on slavery. REPARATIONS NOW!

OBAMA LIES IN PENNSYLVANIA AD
From NBC/NJ’s Aswini Anburajan
GREENBURG, Pa. -- The Clinton campaign today accused the Obama campaign of "false advertising," claiming that a recent ad Obama released in Pennsylvania was disngenous because Obama has been the recipient of more than $200,000 from the oil and gas industry.
In the ad, Obama says, "I'm Barack Obama, and I don't take money from oil companies or lobbyists, and I won't let them block change any more."
Obama has taken $213,884 from the oil and gas industry as of Feb. 29th, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Sen. Hillary Clinton has taken $306,813 in that same period.
Two of Obama's campaign bundlers are also CEOs for oil and gas companies, per a list released on his campaign Web site.
Robert Cavnar, listed as a bundler who has raised between $50,000 to $100,000 for the campaign, is the chairman and CEO of Mission Resources Corp., a Houston-based firm. George Kaiser, also listed in the same $50,000 to $100,000 category, is the CEO of Tulsa-based Kaiser-Francis Oil Company.
"It's unfortunate that Senator Obama is using false advertising to explain why he can be trusted to do something about energy prices," Clinton spokesman Phil Singer said. "Senator Obama says he doesn't take campaign contributions from oil companies but the reality is that Exxon, Shell, and others are among his donors."

With our president going around the world telling other countries that THEY can't have nuclear weapons, but WE can...with abortions running rampant (AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF Republican majority we STILL HAVE ABORTION. That's the Republicans' stance to get votes and the Evangelicals always fall for it left and right!!!) do you really think God is going to bless America??? How many Iraqis have been killed in this invasion...but oh well...as long as they're not AMERICANS IT'S ALL GOOD...right??? We can't have creches at Christmastime anymore (we're mixinG church and STATE, REMEMBER???) SO WHY MENTION GOD AT ALL IF WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO EVEN SAY THE WORD "CHRISTMAS ANYMORE??? IF THIS COUNTRY WANTS TO DISTANCE ITSELF SO FAR AWAY FROM GOD WHY SHOULD HE BLESS US????

Wow. Lots of moronic Hillary bile about her party betraying her and over the top fake Obama supporters (see above). Since Hillary cannot win by any other stretch other than a beauty contest for superdelegates, lets look at her credibility. This is Hillary Clinton: Whitewater, Travelgate, Monica Lewinsky and impeachment, renting out the Lincoln bedroom, the loss of the Rose Law Firm billing records for nearly 2 years until they were miraculously found in the White House living quarters, removing files from Vince Foster’s office following his suicide and before investigators could get there. Her stalling to release her full tax returns and earmark requests from her time in the Senate, as well as her Clinton library donors. Her apology to the African American community (for her campaigns racist comments) which came days too late. Her decline to return $170,000 in campaign contributions from individuals at International Profit Associates, or IPA accused of widespread sexual harassment, and whose CEO is a disbarred lawyer with a criminal record. Lets not forget her campaign eventually returned some $850,000 to Hong Kong businessman Norman Hsu who was found to be a fugitive in a 15-year old theft case. He was indicted for fraud related to his campaign contributions in 2007. Her failed inclusion and diplomacy with congress on her universal health care bid. Her subsequent surrender and alignment to the health care industry. Her flip flop on NAFTA. Her flip flop on Iraq. Her flip flop on Florida and Michigan. Her exaggerated foreign policy experience. Her dealing the race card better than Republicans could. Clinton photo with Rezko. Clinton photo and prayer breakfast with Rev Wright. Her lies about Bosnia. Her failure to get the endorsement of close friend Bill Richardson. Her flip flop on pledged delegates and superdelegates by encouraging party elite to vote against the will of the people - “I believe strongly that in a democracy, we should respect the will of the people and to me, that means it’s time to do away with the Electoral College and move to the popular election of our president.” - Hillary Clinton in 2000

GOP just says it to hide the fact that they are salivating to take Obama to the cleaner with all the stories about Rezko, drugs, liberals, and worse yet, unpatriotic and anti-white.

Yep...this is what they have."stories". McBush goes around telling about his family as Americans loose their homes, can't feed their families, and lose their jobs. He doesn't have a clue about economics so they'll pull out the old trusty unpatriotic anti-white BS. McCarthyism at its best. Such "great" Americans all.

Good. Then you can be part of the party who has one who claims they love America and send it down the tubes because he is clueless on the economy and so into war. Congratulations!

This republican will be voting for Obama over McCain.

We need to fix healthcare so that our companies can compete with those in other countries where companies don't have the cost of healthcare. McCain isn't interested in this problem.

We need to let the Bush tax cuts expire so we can eliminate the federal deficit; every U.S. family is not paying $3500 a year just for interest on federal debt. Much of that money goes to China and the Middle East. McCain wants to make these budget-busting tax cuts permanent.

McCain wants to stay in Iraq. The lives and fortune lost there are doing no good for Americans. McCain won't get us out of Iraq.

If you think people are going to worry about Wright or Clinton skeletons or McCain's Hagee or all these extraneous issues, you're wrong. Americans always have, and always will, vote on what matters the most to them -- MONEY!!

As a Republican, sad to say, but Obama and the Democrats will do more for the middle class than McCain and his social conservatives and big-business special interests.
