Indianapolis Star political reporter Mary Beth Schneider had an interview today with Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana, who seems to be pouring a considerable amount of cold water on the theory that he could be picked as Sen. Barack Obama's running mate during a stop Wednesday in Indiana.
Bayh told the newspaper that while he has "no idea" what Obama's timetable is, he is pretty sure it will not happen Wednesday.
"I'm absolutely confident there will be no announcement tomorrow," he said. "I guess the best way to put it is, if there's an announcement tomorrow, I'd be as surprised as anybody else."
Bayh is expected to introduce Obama at an event in Elkhart, Ind. But he told the Star that he has no plans for a private meeting with Obama, even though they are flying together to northern Indiana tonight.
Obama is expected to spend the better part of a day in northern Indiana. Bayh said he believed the campaign is still trying to arrange another event besides the morning one in Elkhart.
The former Indiana governor said his wife, Susan; twin sons Nick and Beau; and his father, former Sen. Birch Bayh, will not be joining him.

Sounds like Bayh has learned a thing or two from Tim Kaine's wild publicity ride concerning the Veepstakes.
Really, why else would Obama make a one-day trip to Indiana? He may not name him tomorrow, but it has to be for some sort of final meeting before the choice is made in a week or two.

This is the public phase of "vetting".
Hang the meat out on a hook.
See what surfaces. If anything.

I hope I'm mistaken, cuz it looks like she won't be the veep.

Kaine is the candidate, not Bayh.
