Here are a few Washington events of note for Thursday, August 7.
President Bush is giving a speech in Bangkok and receiving a report on Burmese disaster efforts, then flying to Beijing for the opening of the Olympics.
The American Academy of Diplomacy, the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute and the Better World Campaign are hosting a discussion called "New Directions for Democracy Promotion: Opportunities and Challenges for the Next Administration in Pursuing Global Good Governance."
The Agriculture Department hosts its Fifth Annual Partners Meeting, which includes more than 500 leaders from community- and faith-based organizations with USDA officials.
